Heritage Line of Delhi Metro is now open for public. It has three stations namely Jama Masjid, Delhi Gate and Red Fort.
The new line was inaugurated by the Union minister of Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Ceremony was done through video conferencing at the Metro Bhawan. The Heritage Line is an extension of the Violet Line which runs between Faridabad and ITO. The new line starts from the IOT-Kashmere Line and will considerably reduce the traffic at the Chandni Chowk and Chawri Bazar stations of the Yellow Line.
Mr. Naidu also addressed that the opening of the Heritage Line will boost Delhi’s economy as this will attract more tourists. Visitors need not worry about traffic jams and parking issues. The construction of the new line was not less than a challenge for engineers as they had to design lines through crowded areas and through areas close to historical monuments. The stations of this line are all underground and are designed in a historic rich cultural heritage theme.
Currently, the total metro service lines operable in Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) are 217 kilometres and have 162 stations. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is also guiding many other metro projects in different cities across the nation.
