In a heartwarming display of compassion and dedication, 84-year-old Gurrala Sarojanamma, a retired teacher from Telangana, has devoted her life to philanthropy, leaving a lasting impact on her community. Born in Andhra Pradesh and settled in Bodhan town in Nizamabad District, Sarojanamma strongly believes in the power of service to bring satisfaction and smiles to people's lives.
Facing opposition and familial disputes over her altruistic views, Sarojanamma's commitment to service was strengthened by a particular incident. Witnessing a family being denied the opportunity to perform the last rites of a loved one due to personal sentiments of the house owner, deeply moved her.
Determined to make a difference, Sarojanamma embarked on a remarkable journey. She established a building named Dharmasthala, equipped with a freezer to preserve bodies, allowing families to honor their traditions. The government provided the land, and Sarojanamma invested Rs 20 lakh in its construction, ensuring free access to the facilities for those in need. Additionally, she funded the construction of a cowshed and generously donated to a pharmacy, among other philanthropic endeavors.
One extraordinary act of generosity stood out as Sarojanamma donated her own house, worth crores of rupees, to the Retired Employees Association. Her selfless service has not only brought fulfillment to her life but has also earned her the endearing title of "Peddamma" from those she has touched.
Recognizing her extraordinary contributions, Sarojanamma received accolades from Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and was honored by the American Telugu Association. Her remarkable story serves as an inspiration, encouraging others to engage in acts of service with a genuine human touch.
