After that, Anish had the opportunity to compete in the West Bengal State Under-13 Open, where he was paired against five highly regarded players. He received a preliminary FIDE rating of 1555 as a result. He beat Tejas Tiwari of India, who had achieved this accomplishment at the age of five. According to Sarkar's mother, they knew almost nothing about chess. His mother, Reshma, told in a press release, “We exposed him to a variety of YouTube channels, including cartoons like Peppa Pig, but he was drawn to chess videos."
By January, his curiosity had grown, and she continued, "He would watch those chess videos nonstop. Although I couldn't always keep a close watch on him, I felt it would be safe for him to handle the chessboard and pieces I had gotten him. Chess quickly became his favorite game, especially since he was already great with numbers and counting. That’s when we decided to have him trained under the guidance of Dibyendu Sir.”
Anish Sarkar’s journey from a curious toddler watching chess videos to becoming the youngest player in history to receive a FIDE rating is nothing short of extraordinary. At just three years and eight months old, he has already broken records and made waves in the world of chess. With his sharp mind and determination, there’s no telling how far this young prodigy will go. The world of chess is clearly in for a thrilling ride, and Anish Sarkar is just getting started!
